Influence on compressor characteristic of inlet swirl flow distortion

  • To investigate the influence of inlet swirl flow distortion on compressor characteristic, a swirl flow producer was installed onto a single-stage axial compressor test bench. By using swirl flow producer to produce swirl flow distortions with different directions of rotation and different intensities, the inflences of swirl flow distortions on compressor characteristic and stability were analyzed.Results show that, the bulk co-swirl flow distortion can reduce the pressurized ability but increase stability margin of compressor under some swirl flow distortion intensities, bulk counter-swirl flow distortion has a small influence o pressurized ability but obvious influence on stability of compressor, by contrast. Twin swirl flow distortion has a small influence o pressurized ability,which can be ignored,but has some influence on stability of compressor.
