Application and Development of Platform Friction Damper for depressing Resonant Vibration of Blades

  • Utilization of dry friction has been recognized to be an effective and simple means to increase the damping level and reduce blade vibratory stresses of the bladed disk system.The platform damper is a kind of such application.During the last twenty years,a great deal of researchers has been working on structural models for the blade/friction damper system and the nonlinear analytical methodology to predict the dynamic behaviors of the frictionally constrained blade system.In result certain theoretical principles have been provided for designing the platform damper.This paper reviews recent works in three aspects:simplified structure models,nonlinear analytical approach and damper design optimization.The authors make attempts to indicate the advantages and constraints of the models and methods in common use and present the problems worthy to research in the future.
