Numerical Analysis of the Modeled Blade/Casing Containment

  • The nonlinear transient response of the modeled casing under the impact of cracked blade was calculated numerically.The explicit nonlinear finite element program LS-DYNA was used for the numerical computations.Different containment ring thickness and construction and different blade material and rotating speed were simulated.The casing response under different strain rate was calculated and compared.The impact of material properties on casing response was also evaluated.The calculated results are in good coincidence with experiment.
