Modeling of electromagnetic field within arcjet thruster

  • In order to reveal electromagnetic characteristics and interaction between electromagnetic field and high temperature ionized gas within arcjet thruster,improved modeling of electromagnetic field was developed and various numerical techniques were observed and studied.Contributions of electric field force,lorentz force and electronic pressure gradient to conduction current were considered in the model.Electricity equation was derived from electron dynamic equation and particle collision theory.Electromagnetic field equation was simplified from Maxwell's equations.And ten iteration techniques were introduced to solve discretized electromagnetic field equation,including Strong Implicit Procedure(SIP) iteration technique.The investigation shows that SIP iteration technique can be adopted to solve electromagnetic field within arcjet thruster very effectively,and the present modeling can well demonstrate the interaction between electromagnetic field and high temperature ionized gas within it.
