A numerical study on the effects of bamboo-shaped pin fin arrays on flow and heat transfer

  • The effects of pin fins on the flow and heat transfer of passage was studied via numerical calculation method, and the flow field of bamboo-shaped columns was simulated.The calculated results show that, as compared with circle-shaped columns, the pressure loss of rectangular passage with circle bamboo-shaped and elliptic bamboo-shaped columns is 62%~77% and 25%~27%, and the average Nusselt number on the uniform heat flux end wall decreases to 9%~22% and 22%~24%.The pressure loss increases with the reduction of spacing between pin fins, and the variation of the pressure loss induced by changing spanwise pin fins spacing is more obvious than by changing streamwise pin fins spacing.
