Investigation on the ultimate strength of unidirectional tapes and plain cloth hybrid laminates

  • Unidirectional-tapes/plain-cloth hybrid laminates are widely applied in fabricating complex composite structures.Atheoretical analysis approach was established in the present paper to predict the ultimate strength of the tapes/plain-cloth reinforced composites based on three dimensional finite element analysis and optimum design method.The tension and compression experiments on the tapes/plain-cloth laminates were done to verify the effectiveness of the theoretical method put forward in this paper.The deviation of the ultimate strength between the theoretically predicted results and the experimental results are within15%.
