Effect of porosity on the failure strength of porous ceramic materials

  • The failure problems of porous ceramic materials were analyzed using the lattice model and statistical methods.Finite element model of porous ceramic materials was established firstly.Then,the failure process of porous ceramic materials was simulated by using self-adapt load technique.Finally,the simulation results were analyzed statistically.The effects of the pores' size,volume and porosity,etc,were considered easily through 3-Dlattice model.The study shows that the failure process of the brittle porous materials exhibit certain plastic property;the stochastic distribution of the pores causes some differences in the terms of failure strength;the higher porosity means lower failure strength.
