  • An experiment of floating ring bearings and flexible rotor in a micro turbo-engine was presented. Some nonlinear behaviors of fluid-solid interaction in floating bearings were studied. And nonlinear frequency characteristics of five typical vibrations in floating ring bearings were presented.Furthermore, the difference and correlation between power frequency characteristic in critical speed range and whirl frequency harmonic response characteristic were illustrated. At the same time, the method to control vibration and to eliminate whirl was described.Based on the analytical expressions of load capacity and whirl frequency in single oil film lubrication bearings, the stability of floating ring bearings was analyzed. The experiment shows that the whirl ratios of outer and inner oil film in floating ring bearings approach 0.5 and 0.3,respectively,in squeezing vibration, which matches the theoretical analysis considerably. This research provides experimental and theoretical evidence for future floating ring bearings design and performance research.
