Parametric optimization design of curvilinear heat sink based on the minimization of entropy generation rate

  • Based on the procedure of the parametric design and numerical simulation,the parametric design software for optimally designing the radial heat sink was developed utilizing VB language,allowing to generate automatically high quality hexahedral meshes.The numerical simulation could also be performed automatically,and the results of the entropy generation rate of fan-sink assembly were obtained.Geometry parametric investigations achieved quickly by the program were carried out to examine the effect of various design parameters on the performance of the fan-sink assembly by choosing one parameter as the control variable,which can provide physical insight into the flow and heat transfer characteristics of the heat sinks and deep understanding for the optimization of the heat sinks.The multi-parameter constraint structural optimization procedure based on the combination algorithms with parallel computational fluid dynamics(CFD) was performed on the fan-sink assembly for minimization of the entropy generation rate.Results show that the entropy generation rate of optimal curvilinear heat sink is decreased by 7% as compared to the initial design.
