Pressure distribution and stress calculation of glaze ice on iced airfoil

  • Under different air velocity and attack angle conditions,the variation of pressure distribution along glaze ice on airfoil was analyzed.The effect of pressure distribution on mechanics characteristics of glaze ice on airfoil was investigated.And variation of max shear stress of interface between glaze ice and airfoil was investigated.Combined with experimental curve of shear strength vs.temperature on interface,the contribution of max shear stress to ice shed was analyzed.The results show that max shear stress accounts for about 5.48% of shear strength.Thus contribution of aerodynamics to ice shed is nonsignificant.If heat deicer is turned on,temperature will climb and shear strength between the ice and airfoil will fall continuously.Max shear stress can exceed 10% of shear strength above-2℃ where the ice may be fractured and ice shed will be accelerated consequently.
