Design and tests of jet fuel starter-assisted airstarts for turbofan engines

  • The design and tests of a jet fuel starter-assisted airstart scheme were conducted for a turbofan engine.The methods of ground-rig tests,air-equipment tests and flight tests were performed,showing that the jet fuel starter-assisted airstart could enlarge the airstart envelop of a turbofan engine.The scheme using jet fuel starter-assisted airstart has improved the reliability of airstarts during engine flame out in the flight,thus guaranteeing the flight safety.
