A new type of face-gear drive with intersected axes of rotation formed by an arcuate tooth trace face-gear and an arcuate tooth trace cylindrical pinion was proposed,which has better meshing performance than the helical and spur involute face-gear drives.An arcuate tooth trace spiral bevel face-gear drive used for transformation of rotation between intersected axes that was consisted of a spiral bevel face-gear and an arcuate tooth trace cylindrical pinion.By applying space engagement theory,the author developed the cutting principle,mathematical model of design and machining for arcuate tooth trace face-gear.The equations of tooth surface of arcuate tooth trace face-gear was deduced and a 3-D model of FEM(finite element method) was established for further analysis.Based on the analysis of the machining method,it is convenient to generating the tooth surface of arcuate tooth trace face-gear by using the common Gleason cutter head with the general multi-axle numerical control machine tool.
