This investigation is devoted to the modeling and simulation of the residual stress field resulting from the shot-peening process,in which the finite element method was employed. The history of energy change during explicit dynamic analysis was discussed and the solving time for explicit analysis was analyzed by shock wave theory. For the single shot impact model, the study examined the effect of shot velocity, shot size, incident angle and interfacial friction, while comparison was made with the published experimental results.Furthermore, the effect of repeated impacts on the residual stress field and equivalent plastic strain was studied. The influence of peening coverage on the residual stresses field was investigated using a realistic multiple impingement model.
