Numerical simulation on flow and heat transfer of elliptical pin-fins in cooling channel

  • Numerical simulation was conducted to investigate the flow and heat transfer performance of elliptical pin-fin arrays in turbine blade cooling channel.Then,the impacts of array spacing,angle of attack,ratio of long axis and short axis on flow and heat transfer in pin-fins channel were obtained.The result indicates that,when the angle of attack is 0°,the pressure loss coefficient and average Nusselt number of elliptical pin-fins channel is about 51.7% and 83.75%,respectively,of the same fin section-area and arrays circular pin-fins channel;when the ratio of long axis and short axis is 5/1.8,the pressure loss coefficient is only 28.1%~35.5% of circular pin-fins channel(ratio of long axis and short axis is 3/3),and average Nusselt number is 71.1%~75.06% of circular pin-fins channel.
