Analysis of characteristic and mechanism of pipe diffuser for a highly loaded centrifugal compressor

  • Pipe diffuser was designed for a highly loaded centrifugal compressor in this paper.Parametric studies on the throat area of pipe diffuser were completed through numerical simulation.And detailed analyses of the flow visualization in the compressor have exposed the different radial diffuser blade flow topologies between channel diffuser and pipe diffuser.Furthermore,this paper made some preliminary conclusions as for the design criteria of pipe diffuser throat and the flow physics involved in the stall margin improvements afforded by the use of pipe diffuser.
