Experimental study for water-lubricated high-speed controllable spiral-groove face seals

  • Electromagnetic loadable device and testing device for face friction torque were developed,and applied into experimental study of controllable,full water-film lubricated spiral-groove mechanical face seals.Controllable parameters of face seal,such as face temperature,friction torque,and face pressure,were measured,and the influence of axial balancing controlled load on the controllable parameters was studied.Experimental results show that the face pressure increases with increasing rotation speed,and the face temperature is higher with higher speed.The full water-film lubricated face seal has less friction force.The performance parameters of electromagnetic loadable device and testing device for face friction torque were tested in the experiment process,and the target for testing and verifying the controllability of spiral-groove face seals was implemented.The study has the important engineering value for developing real-time monitoring and active control of the spiral-groove face seal.
