Numerical simulation of swirling flow with different turbulent models

  • To certain type swirl setting,the swirling flow field of swirl setting interior was simulated based on Navier-Stokes equations by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method with renormalization group (RNG) k-ε and Reynolds stress model (RSM) turbulence model,respectively.By analyzing the simulation results and comparing them with the experiment results,the turbulence model's applicability research in swirling flow numerical simulation was performed.Research shows that:the results of swirling flow simulation differ a lot from the experiment results,because RNG k-ε turbulence model is based on the Boussinesq eddy-viscosity hypothesis,which couldn't consider the anisotropy of eddy-viscosity nor describe the transport process of turbulence energy transformation to average movement energy.Thus,RSM turbulence model could conquer the problems and consist with the experiment results,and the simulation results reflect the characteristics of swirling flow.RSM turbulence model is applicable to swirling flow numerical simulation.
