Effect of different elastic ring installation locations in catcher bearing system on rotor drop dynamic responses

  • Catcher bearings serve as the temporary support of the rotor once active magnetic bearings fail.Focusing on the huge impacts and vibrations after rotor dropped methods of,fixing an elastic ring on the rotor and outer race of the catcher bearing were separately adopted to buffer the series of impacts.The dynamic models of rotor drop for the two structures were established.Then,the established dynamic functions were numerically simulated to compare the different effect of the two proposed structures on the following impacts,rotor orbits and inner race speed after rotor dropped.On the basis of theoretical analysis,the corresponding experiments were performed.Both simulation and experimental results show that adding the elastic ring to the rotor is more effective to reduce the vibration amplitudes and impacts.
