Boundary conditions and Fourier series truncation errors with 3-D inverse method for radial and mixed flow turbomachines

  • Different kinds of the inlet and outlet boundary conditions were studied in theory and different specifications of the endwall boundary condition were compared. The impacts of the inlet, outlet, endwall boundary conditions and the series truncation errors on the blade design by a steady Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) solver were studied numerically. The results show that the impacts of the inlet and outlet boundary conditions on the blade design are neglectable, while those of the endwall boundary conditions are relative large. The impacts of the series truncation errors could be neglected if the number of Fourier series terms is more than 15.
