Experiment on spooldown airstart performance of aero-turbofan engine in ATF

  • A aero-turbofan engine turbofan with great flow rate completed spooldown airstart tests in altitude test facility(ATF). The simulated altitude was at 5km, 8km and 10km. The results of test in AFT showed that simulated intake total pressure and exhaust pressure had obvious fluctuation during spooldown airstart process. So the engine operating condition of spooldown airstart test in ATF deviated from the real flight condition. Moreover, different airspeeds of 25-70km/h were obtained using a few calculation ways to analyze the test data. A performance evaluation method of spooldown airstart test in ATF was recommended based on the analysis results, namely, the simulation flight condition means the average in three seconds span from the beginning of the airstart sequence for the successful tests, or the average in the time from the rotor speed's return to drop down again for the failure tests. This is important to improve the performance evaluation level of test in ATF.
