3-D simulation of rotating detonation wave in combustion chambers without inner wall

  • Based on summary and analysis of existing results and conclusions on rotating detonation wave in annular combustion chambers, an alternative model of chamber for rotating detonation engines was presented. It has no inner wall. We utilized one step chemistry kinetic model together with the Eular function in three-dimensional space to testify the possibility of continuous rotation. The simulation showing that the detonation spontaneously converged to a propagation structure of two central symmetric detonation waves. Under the present condition, the mass flow could reach as large as 450kg/m2s and the fuel-based impulse was 1900s, which is 5 percent lower than that in the annular combustion chamber.
