Numerical simulation and analysis of nitrogen-enriched air flow in multi-bay fuel tank

  • According to the characteristic of multi-bay fuel tank,a numerical simulation method for nitrogen-enriched air (NEA) flow in multi-bay fuel tank was developed.Firstly,the correctness of this method was verified by comparing the inerting results from numerical simulation with the results of the engineering model and the test data from foreign literatures.Secondly,after analyzing the oxygen volume fraction in individual bay of the inerting process,it was found that the oxygen volume fraction distribution in individual bay tended to be even and the outflow oxygen volume fraction of one bay was approximately equal to the average oxygen volume fraction of that bay.Lastly,the simulated flow rates were compared with the cross-section flow areas between different bays.It is found that if the vents are placed symmetrically to the inlet of NEA,the flow rates can be weighted based on the cross-section flow areas; while if the vents are placed asymmetrically to the inlet of NEA,the flow pattern would be relatively complex.
