To investigate and improve the high stress gradient near the edges of contact zone in conventional tenon jointing, several typical profiles of contact surface were analyzed by means of finite element method(FEM),indicating that different contact profiles would lead to different stress distributions. Then,a set of finite element models with different grids for dovetail attachment were established to analyze stress concentration effects, and improve the solving accuracy of contact stress.Different profiles of contact surface were chosen. The numerical solutions show that arc/line contact profile for two-dimensional(2-D) will remove the high stress concentration, and arc/arc one will further depress the contact stress.
