2010, 25(2): 243-250.
Abstract:
The principal effects of different elliptical and compositive cut at trailing edge of a practical lobed mixer on the thermal mixing efficiency and total-pressure recovery coefficient were studied by three dimensional-computational fluid dynamics(3D-CFD) numerical simulation. The results show that the thermal mixing efficiency declines while the total-pressure recovery coefficient increases as the cut size of the elliptical sector augments. As for the models of compositive cut at trailing edge, the thermal mixing efficiency is lower than that of the original models except for the model with half sector arrangement, but the total-pressure recovery coefficient is usually higher than that of the original model.Among all the models with compositive modification, the model with half sector arrangement has the best performance.

2010, 25(2): 251-257.
Abstract:
In order to achieve successful transition of detonation wave from the pre-detonator to main detonation tube, numerical simulation was performed for the exits of different geometry shapes, and the diffraction characteristics of detonation wave were obtained from pre-detonator to main tube. The results show that when the pre-detonator has a straight nozzle, the detonation waves cannot propagate upstream from the interface between the main combustor and pre-detonator exit;when the pre-detonator exit has a 45-degree nozzle, the detonation wave can diffract to both sides in main combustor. These results have been proved by laboratory experiments.

2010, 25(2): 264-269.
Abstract:
Both visual experiment and numerical simulation were conducted to investigate the interaction between bubble jet flows on thin wires. The attractive interaction appeared between nearby bubble jet flows, and bubble jet flows would combine into one jet flow under strong interactions.A physical model was proposed to understand the mechanism of the interaction between bubble jet flows. The temperature in the adjacent region of the bubble sharply decreases due to the bubble growth, which induces unsymmetrical thermocapillary force around and/or in adjacent region of a bubble. As a result, the attractive interaction exists between nearby bubble jet flows, while the adjacent bubbles trends to separate from each other. The numerically simulated temperature and flow fields are in a good agreement with experimental results.

2010, 25(2): 284-290.
Abstract:
An Eulerian two-phase method was presented to predict water droplets impingement for three-dimensional complex surfaces such as multi-element airfoil and engine inlet under icing conditions. The air-droplet two-phase flow was considered one-way coupled, and the airflow field was solved independently from the Euler or Navier-Stokes(N-S) equations.A treatment of boundary conditions of the droplet phase at the impingement surfaces was given. An adaptive numerical diffusion model was proposed to avoid divergence in higher order simulations caused by the singularity of droplet volume fraction in localized regions.Validation cases were performed for typical two or three dimensional bodies, including a cylinder,a MS(1)-0317 airfoil,a sphere,a multi-element airfoil and an engine inlet.Cases with droplet sizes in certain distribution were also calculated. In comparison with published experimental results, the present computational method is accurate and effective, and applicable to three-dimensional complex surfaces.

Abstract:
To investigate the influence of transverse slots on film cooling effectiveness,an experimental study was employed with three different film cooling experimental plates in several ratios, two of which have different transverse slots. And the distributions were compared with the baseline holes' to reveal the good effects of the transverse slots on the film cooling performance. The results show that, the penetration of the film secondary flow into the cross flow is suppressed under the action of the transverse slots,so the film effectiveness is higher with better coverage on the hot side. And SCASE 2 of sloped downstream slot outperforms the other cases with respect to the cooling effectiveness.

2010, 25(2): 302-307.
Abstract:
Experiments and theory analysis were carried out to investigate the characteristics of temperature measurement using thermal imager for curved surface.According to the theory of infrared thermometry techniques, the infrared radiation characteristics of curved surface essentially have no difference with flat surface, both of which can be described by the same mathematics expression. The essential reason which induces the measuring error of infrared thermal imagery for curved surface is that equivalent face of the measured surface no longer satisfies the diffuse body hypothesis, owing to too large included angle of the normal direction of curved surface and the measuring direction of infrared thermal imagery. The temperature measuring accuracy can be improved by measuring the local emissivity for the region where the diffuse body hypothesis is invalid for its equivalent face.

A numerical investigation of an annular combustor in a transient state(from idle to maximum) was conducted with commercial software FLUENT by adding the UDF(user-defined function) subroutines.Temperature field was studied by comparing with traditional method(which used steady simulation at some discrete operation conditions to approximate the transient state). The results show that:(1)there are large differences between transient and steady simulation at corresponding operation condition, the outlet temperature distribution of steady simulation is higher than the transient simulation;(2) the time step is a critical factor affecting the accuracy of transient simulation,a small time step could account for the close interaction with flow filed parameters of different times;(3) a hysteresis phenomenon during the transient state exists at the averaged outlet temperature in relation to fuel-air ratio.

2010, 25(2): 320-325.
Abstract:
To study the effects of wall roughness, sudden expansion/contraction,inlet turbulence intensity and cooling channel curvature on heat transfer and fluid flow in cooing channel,three-dimensional turbulent fluid flow and heat transfer were numerically investigated with RSM model, which was used to represent the turbulence;the coolant was gas hydrogen, whose thermophysical properties varied with both temperature and pressure. The results show that, the increase of wall roughness will increase not only the heat transfer but also the pressure loss;the vortex appears on the nearby sudden expansion/contraction point, the turbulence intensity and local pressure loss increase due to the vortex, while the wall temperature decreases at the place where the vortex appears;the coolant inlet turbulence intensity has no effects on the development of flow in cooling channel;the secondary flows which develop due to centrifugal force on the coolant will cause the mass redistribution, leading to heat transfer enhancement at the concave cooling channel but deterioration at convex cooling channel.

2010, 25(2): 331-335.
Abstract:
A method of measuring the enthalpy of China's No.3 jet fuel RP-3 at supercritical pressure was proposed based on the principle of energy conservation. At the same time, the enthalpy of RP-3 at different supercritical pressures between 323K and 834K was measured. The results indicate that, the enthalpy of RP-3 at different pressures is almost the same when the fuel temperature is lower than its critical temperature. When the fuel temperature is higher than its critical temperature, the difference of enthalpy at different supercritical pressures declines with the growing pressure. In addition, the temperature of RP-3 calculated by the curve of enthalpy had been compared with the measurement value, showing that the measurement of enthalpy is accurate and reliable. At last, the influence of heat flux on heat transfer of RP-3 was studied. The test results indicate that the Nusselt number increases with heat flux if the bulk fuel temperature Tb/Tc is lower than 1.179(760K).

Abstract:
Based on a nonlinear flight dynamics model for a single rotor helicopter with ducted tail rotor,a mixed(Newton method/Gradient method) numerical method was proposed to solve helicopter trimming and maneuvering control laws. The effects of ground on trimming and maneuvering control were studied.Taking a typical helicopter as an example, the trims for steady flight with different velocities and altitudes were first solved. Then control laws for lateral jink maneuver were obtained for helicopter NOE(nap of earth) flight. The calculation results conform to the ground effect theory, and load factor and control variation of the maneuver can be used for reference. The theoretical method here can provide the references for the analyses on dynamics and unsteady control in helicopter maneuvering flight near the ground.

2010, 25(2): 359-365.
Abstract:
A fast frequency domain method for predicting sonic boom propagation was proposed based on classical Khokhlov-Zabolotskaya-Kuznetsov(KZK) equation.Furthermore, the sonic boom properties along the normal direction to the shock front were obtained by augmenting the Mach angle into the equation. To demonstrate the feasibility of the method, the results were compared with the experimental data of the model C presented in NASA TD N-161.The flow field of the supersonic moving vehicle was first calculated by a computational fluid dynamics(CFD) method with different grids. Then, the sonic boom propagation was computed based on the proposed KZK model with the input of the Fourier analysis results from CFD.The prediction results are in good agreement with NASA experimental data.It is also shown that the sonic boom decays rapidly in the near field due to the nonlinearity effects. In the far field, the sonic boom becomes axisymmetric gradually due to the effect of sound diffraction. After long distance propagation, the sound energy is concentrated on low frequency component.

2010, 25(2): 373-378.
Abstract:
The vortex formation and evolution in a supersonic air/air free diffused plane mixing layer were investigated numerically by forcing four different harmonic disturbances without phase differences. The two-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes equations including the diffusion effect of air components were solved by using a high accuracy finite difference method. The convective terms and transport terms were discretized by a third-order upwind compact scheme and a sixth-order symmetric compact scheme, respectively. The unsteady time marching method is a third-order compact storage explicit Runge-Kutta algorithm. Some phenomena of large-scale primary vortex growing and interacting were revealed, such as saturating, paring once and twice, and triple-vortex pairing. For low convective Mach number of Mac=0.3,primary vortices are fatter, but their streamwise lengths are shorter.Under the influence of air real-gas characteristics, the vortex-shocklet structure is not discovered in the case of high convective Mach number of Mac=0.8.

2010, 25(2): 384-387.
Abstract:
The term'time truncated zero-failure'means the product under experiment does not fail at the end of the experiment, and this is a pressing problem in engineering to solve problems related to time truncated zero-failure data.In this paper,a method of reliability analysis for time truncated zero-failure data based on normal distribution was presented, providing reliability assessment of a product with high confidence using the information from time truncated zero-failure data. The one-side lower confidence limits of liability and life were calculated in this paper when the standard deviation or its higher limit was known. Then, time truncated time zero-failure data from some satellite thrust tests with normal distribution, were analyzed. The results indicate that the method in this paper can make full use of both the information from these data and the higher one-side lower confidence limits of lognormal distribution. The method provided in this paper can be easily realized for the benefit of engineering application.

2010, 25(2): 388-395.
Abstract:
In consideration of the "local" feature of combustor liner temperature field and stress field,a concept of "local creep buckling" was presented in this paper along with an engineering analysis method.Firstly, the theoretical model of creep buckling was established based on Hoff theory.Secondly, the feasibility of using finite element method(FEM) to analyze creep buckling was validated by theoretical and test data.Thirdly,a statics analysis with thermal-mechanical loads was performed, and then the dangerous place of combustor liner local creep buckling was captured considering creep buckling instability factors.Finally,sub-model technique was used in nonlinear thermal elastic-plastic/creep finite element analysis to capture the critical time of local creep buckling with "curvature local maximum point" criterion. It could be concluded that,as compared with traditional method, the hypothesis of average temperature, average compressive stress and plane strain could be improved in this paper, thus the computational accuracy was enhanced greatly. The work of this paper is significant on the application of structure design of combustor liner.

Abstract:

2010, 25(2): 443-450.
Abstract:
Firstly, for the S2,m streamline-curvature approach, the blade force decomposition method using two stream surface angles in the cylinder coordinates was associated with that using one stream surface angle of the computing station quasi-orthogonal to the streamline;then a control momentum equation suitable for axial-,radial-and mixed-flow type compressors was derived.Secondly,an integrative bypass-turbomachine through-flow inverse design method was proposed, which employs either the convergence strategy of automatically re-positioning the splitter or that of re-calculating the bypass ratio. So an integrative design method for the compression system of fan added by an axial-centrifugal compressor was presented. This method has been applied to a two-channel two-shaft system consisting of a two-stage fan,two-stage booster and a centrifugal compressor. The flow fields of first fan stage and the centrifugal impeller were checked by computational fluid dynamics(CFD),demonstrating the operational feasibility and flexibility of this method.Thirdly, the physical significance of the axial velocity ratio and its application in an axial-flowpath self-adjusting inverse problem were discussed. The simpleness and convenience of the axial velocity ratio as a design parameter are showed by another example.

Abstract:
In order to investigate the effect of uncertain design parameters on the performance of cluster plug nozzles in design method, two types of 8-module and one type of 16-module clustered plug nozzles were designed with the same total area ratio and shape size.Their thrust efficiencies were calculated numerically, and also compared respectively under the condition of same module gap and diameter ratio, module number and module area ratio. The 8-touched-module clustered plug nozzle with module area ratio of 30.2 had the highest efficiency in high attitude and the 8-separated-module clustered plug nozzle with module area ratio of 20.7 had the highest efficiency in low attitude. In the design procedure,a bigger module area ratio can be selected to enhance its performance when the clustered nozzle works in medium and low attitude, otherwise a smaller one can be selected.
