2008, 23(4): 585-590.
Abstract:
The direct numerical simulation(DNS) of well-developed three-dimensional incompressible turbulent reacting channel flows was carried out by using a spectral method. The instantaneous turbulence fluctuation database with the coupling of temperature and mass fraction was gained. The instantaneous results show that both the temperature fluctuation and the mass fraction fluctuation have strip structures in the near wall region.Exact transport equations of the correlations for the second order moment reaction model in the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations(RANS-SOM) are deducted. As for the correction of the reaction rate coefficient and mass fraction, the dissipation term is key to model closure, and consideration of reaction for the dissipation term of the model equation is necessary.Based on the statistical results of the DNSdatabase,a priori study on the budget of each term in the RANS-SOMmodel correlations transport equations was carried out.It is found that the contributions from the production and dissipation terms are most important, whereas the contributions from the diffusion and reaction terms are rather small. The chemical reaction has obvious influence on the magnitude and distribution of all the terms. Moreover,in the studied cases in this paper, the correlation of reaction rate coefficient and mass fraction which is obtained by DNSdatabase statistical results is close to the value obtained by the algebra second order moment(ASOM) model prediction, affirming reasonableness of ASOMmodel.

2008, 23(4): 591-597.
Abstract:
The flow field of an aeroengine exhaust system including its inner space and outer space was calculated using the Navier-Stokes equations. And then the infrared calculation model of the aeroengine exhaust system and its plume using integration method of the radiative transfer equation(RTE) were established. The corresponding FORTRANprograms for the infrared radiation calculation were written, which can simulate two cases if the after burner is on or not.If the after burner is on the soot absorption and its radiation must be considered except for the gas media radiation of the water stream, the carbon dioxide, the carbon monoxide and the nitrogen monoxide. This paper finally gives the simulated results of the infrared characteristics in the wave of 3~5 μm in the flying condition of high altitude.

2008, 23(4): 598-604.
Abstract:
Numerical simulation was carried out to investigate the flow fields for three types of shaped hole, namely, cylindrical hole,fan-shaped hole and converging-expanding hole,to reveal how the converging-expanding hole enhance the cooling effectiveness.Realizable k-ε turbulence model with enhanced wall function was used. Results show that the jet from cylindrical hole produces strong streamwise coupling vortices due to its strong and concentrated normal momentum. The fan-shaped hole improves the cooling effectiveness by weakening the jet's normal momentum and the coupling vortices. The converging-expanding hole reduces flow separation in the hole and produces a jet with small streamwise thickness and large lateral width as well as large lateral velocity magnitude. These factors make its coupling vortices have an effect to push the jet to the wall, producing the best coverage and the best cooling effectiveness. The average cooling effectiveness of converging-expanding hole is larger than cylindrical hole's and fan-shaped hole's by about 110%and 15%respectively(M=0.5),or 560%and 60%(M=2).

2008, 23(4): 605-610.
Abstract:
The equilibrium chemistry model using assumed probability density function(PDF) and the flamelet model were adopted to numerically simulate the reactive flow filed of the supersonic combustor of The Geman Aerospace Center. The calculated results were compared with those of the finite-rate chemistry model and the experiments.Finite volume method was used to discretize Favre-averaged Navier-Stokes equations, and κ-ε turbulence model was employed. The results show:(1)the finite-rate chemistry model and the equilibrium chemistry model using assumed PDFcannot capture fine structures of near-field and far-field from the hydrogen injector, respectively, while the flamelet model can predict the flow field well, and computation time of the latter two models is saved about 38% over that of the finite-rate chemistry model;(2) the interaction between turbulence and chemistry in the reactive flow filed of the supersonic combustor should not be ignored, and the flamelet model may have a bright prospect in engineering practices in terms of efficiency and accuracy.

2008, 23(4): 611-616.
Abstract:
The flow fields and cooling effectiveness of the film cooling from a row of cylindrical angled holes embedded in different transverse slots configurations were investigated numerically in several blowing ratios,to reveal the effects of narrow trench, wide trench, and inclined trench with the same trench depth on the film cooling performance from the flowing mechanism. The simulation results of inclined trench model were compared with experimental data of shaped holes. It is found that, for the embedded holes, the jet injected into the slot loses momentum at the exit of the slot;the penetration of the film secondary flow into the cross flow is suppressed and the secondary flow is pushed downwards on to the surface, resulting in better coverage. At low blowing ratio, the inclined trench has superior cooling effect, while at high blowing ratio the narrow trench has superior cooling effect.Alateral vortex appears in the wide trench;a pair of taper vortex appear in the narrow trench;and a pair of counter rotating vortex appear in the inclined trench. The trailing edge wall of the trench plays an important role in the lateral diffusion of the cooling film.

2008, 23(4): 617-622.
Abstract:
With the mesh generation method based on fin passages and element control equation,a new three-dimensional distributed-parameter model for compact heat exchangers was developed. On the basis of this model and the principle of minimum entropy generation,an optimization methodology was realized with genetic algorithm(GA),by which the geometry dimension of the heat exchanger and the fin surface type and sizing can be optimized simultaneously. The distributed-parameter model which takes account of the variation of local fluid physical properties in the heat exchanger can be applied to wet conditions or phase-change conditions. Moreover, because it avoids the complexity of CFDmethod and shortens the computer execution time greatly, the optimization based on distributed-parameter model is very practical. This optimization methodology can be extended to other kinds of heat exchangers and heat sinks.

2008, 23(4): 635-641.
Abstract:
The flow field and the wall temperature distribution calculation models on a converging-diverging nozzle considering the heat conduction, heat convection and radiation heat transfer are established and computed. The flow field is governed by the Navier-Stokes equations and the equations are solved based on the density solver. The wall temperature distribution calculation model is based on the heat transfer mechanism and the heat flux equilibrium. And the corresponding FORTRANprograms for the three layer wall temperature calculation of the nozzle are written. Many flight cases are calculated in which the properties of the burning gas mixture are calculated by a series of formulas and methods considering them varied with the pressure, the temperature and the ratio of oil to air.The results show that the heat shield temperature and the converging-diverging nozzle cylindrical wall temperature increase along the flow direction and decrease in the expand segment of the nozzle. The maximum wall temperature happens around the nozzle throat position. The outer adjustment plate temperature outside of the nozzle cylinder reaches its maximum some little before the nozzle throat position. The best agreement between the calculation and the given data can be observed in the paper.

TAN Xiao-ming, ZHANG Jing-zhou
2008, 23(4): 642-646.
Abstract:
Numerical study on the flow and heat transfer characteristics of coupled synthetic jets was carried out.The results show that: Near the slot exit, three synthetic jets couple to one jet and move downstream. Two synthetic jets on both sides are limited and rolled by the middle synthetic jet until they merge together into one centrosymmetric synthetic jet.The synthetic jet spreads rapidly along the minor axis direction of the orifice with bigger spread-angle;while along the major axis direction, the synthetic jet contracts firstly and then spreads slowly. At the target surface impinged by the synthetic jet,the temperature field is symmetric with the lowest filed in center. The heat transfer coefficients also take on the same trends with centrosymmetric waves, which means that the best cooled area is the stagnation. The distribution of heat transfer coefficients along different directions of the target surface is basically uniform.

2008, 23(4): 651-656.
Abstract:
Anumerical study was conducted on infrared radiation characteristics in the waveband of 3~5 μm for exhaust system of an unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) with engine installed on the back of its fuselage. The flow field of the exhaust jet was calculated with commercial software FLUENT.The infrared radiation characteristics were calculated by using the software developed by the authors based on discrete transfer method. In the computation, multiple effects were considered, which included the emission and reflection of the nozzle wall, the absorption and emission of species of combustion gas,e.g.CO2,H2O and CO,the shelter of fuselage, and the absorption of atmosphere. The results show that by installing the engine on the back of the fuselage, sheltering the nozzle from its underside and forward shifting the nozzle exit relative to the aft-fuselage,the infrared radiation of the exhaust system to under hemisphere is reduced evidently, but on the other side the infrared radiation to the top hemisphere is increased;and the absorption effect of atmosphere on infrared radiation for the front hemisphere is stronger than that for the aft hemisphere.

2008, 23(4): 662-670.
Abstract:
Casing treatments are widely used to enhance the stall margin of fans or compressors of aircraft engines. However, the existing design of casing treatment is generally on the basis of trial and error method and its application always results in efficiency loss of fans or compressors. So,how to understand the mechanism of stall margin improvement with casing treatments and how to design better casing treatments have long been an area of vigorous research activity.Based on the knowledge of the unsteady characteristics caused by casing treatment,it is verified that recessed casing treatment can be modeled as a wall boundary condition, which can be calculated by means of vortex sound theory. In the present work, a series of experimental investigations were conducted with emphasis on the effect of unsteady casing treatments on the stall margin and efficiency of three different low speed fan/compressor facilities. The results show that the unsteady casing treatments do improve the stall margin without incurring recognizable efficiency loss of the concerned fan/compressor.

2008, 23(4): 671-679.
Abstract:
A kind of unsteady casing treatment was used to enhance the stall margin of an axial flow fan, which did not result in any recognizable efficiency loss. So,it is quite important to understand the mechanism of stall margin improvement with such casing treatment. The present investigation firstly developed a technical method for measuring and analyzing the inception wave, and then made some detailed comparisons with the existing results. The experimental results show that the unsteady casing treatment will delay the non-liner development of stall process by suppressing the propagation of inception wave in comparison to the evolution of the inception wave without casing treatments, while the inception point will not be changed with the application of the unsteady casing treatment.

ZHU Jian-hong, PIAO Ying, ZHOU Jian-xing, QI Xing-ming
2008, 23(4): 687-692.
Abstract:
A case with circumferential grooves was designed for a transonic compressor. And 3-D numerical simulations were carried out for stall mechanism in three operative modes at representative speed.Comparison study between compressors with and without casing treatment shows that: with the rotation speed rising, stall margin gain increases dramatically under the help of casing treatments;and the case with middle grooves has better compromise between stall margin and efficiency.Under low speed, the gain reduces, and the last grooves on the chord of blade tip have greater influence on the stall boundary.Further investigation shows that there is a translation in the mechanism of compressor stall when its speed reduces: the stall margin gain mainly results from suppression of tip leakage vortex by casing treatments under high rotation speed;whereas under low rotation speed, the gain benefits more from reduction of the boundary layer separation on suction side of blade tip.

2008, 23(4): 706-711.
Abstract:
Prediction method for the lines-first parachute unfurling process was provided, in which the viscoelasticity of suspension lines was taken into consideration. The fundamental equation of the mathematical model of parachute unfurling process was formulated. The effect of viscosity term in fundamental equation on spreading of tensile wave along suspension lines was emphatically analyzed. The viscoelastic tensile wave not only causes delay of tension spreading from the canopy sleeve end to the other end,but also makes the tension at the two ends different due to absorption and dispersion during the parachute unfurling process. The present model was used to calculate unfurling loads and motions of a parachute deployment. The dynamic change of snatch force was analyzed and it shows that the max snatch force borne on the load end is related not only to max tension produced at the moment when the parachute skirt being drawn out,but also to the load tension produced after skirt is drawn out.
