2007, 22(9): 1430-1434.
Abstract:
An investigation was conducted to explore the influence of density ratio and velocity ratio of mainstream/injectant upon the cooling effect of flat plane film using heat-mass transfer analogy. The injectant is air in the case of density ratio of 1.0,or heterogeneous gas in the case of density ratio of 1.5 and 2.0.The inclined angle between injectant and mainstream is 35° and the hole spacing is 3 times film hole diameter. The results indicate that, the spreading of injectant is controlled through the protected wall surface for a low velocity ratio, and controlled by convection for a high velocity ratio. With the increase of mass flux ratio, the transverse and longitudinal spreading could be expanded, thus increasing effectively the protective range;the reattachment point will move towards the downstream with the increase of momentum ratio under high velocity ratio.

2007, 22(9): 1435-1438.
Abstract:
The full-flow field of a certain 2DCDN(2-dimensional convergence-diffusion nozzle) with two fluidic thrust vectoring concepts was simulated numerically by using 3D Reynolds average N-S equation and RNG k-ε turbulence model. The calculated results show that, the effect of flap injector position on the nozzle vectoring efficiency is consistent under shock vector control and fluidic throat skewing package. The bigger vector angle could be obtained as the injector position approaches the nozzle outlet. When the same jet flux is injected from the same position, the total pressure loss of throat skewing concept is less than that of shock vector control concept, since the main nozzle under throat skewing concept can achieve subsonic turning.

Numerical study of a 3.5-stage axial compressor at on-and off-design conditions
Zhuo Wang
2007, 22(9): 1444-1454.
Abstract:
Numerical investigation is conducted on a 3.5-stage axial compressor,on which numerous experimental projects were carried out at the Institute during the last years and an experimental database was established. In the current study five on-and off-design operating points are simulated using a RANS solver and the results are compared with the measurement. The result shows that the compressor performance can be qualitatively predicted by the mixing-plane method.Better agreement is obtained for the on-design operating point. However,as the flow unsteadiness is insufficiently considered, the numerical method produces end-wall low-speed flow layers accumulated with the flow passing through the passage, which is in no good agreement with the experimental data.In the numerical simulation the rotor rows receive less work and this difference from the measurement increases with the rotational speed. In contrast, the stator rows increase the pressure more efficiently than the measurement. In the simulation the flow in the last stator row tends more to separate on the pressure side of the blade. For the operating points close to the surge line, the predicted separation is more intense than the experimental observation. But for the operating points close to the choke, the separation is suppressed.

HUANG Xu-dong, CHEN Hai-xin, FU Song, David Wisler, Aspi Wadia, G. Scott McNulty
2007, 22(9): 1455-1460.
Abstract:
A novel vortex identification method for the visualization of the flow field is used for the study of the stall process of a transonic compressor. The parameter η4,which is one of the five invariants formed by the stain rate and vorticity tensors from the theory of modern rational mechanics,is found to have good ability to identify vortex stretching and vortex relaxation/breakdown processes,is introduced here to identify the tip leakage vortices.Compare with former generally used DPH(dynamic pressure head) contour, the new method reveals much more flow details which may advance our understanding of the compressor behaviors. The Vortices details are revealed in both peak efficiency and near stall condition.A possible stall process is also suggested based on the vortices analysis. The tip leakage flow from mid-chord,besides leading edge leakage flow,is also considered to play an important role in the stall process.

2007, 22(9): 1475-1480.
Abstract:
The improved effect of casing treatment in axial compressors was studied by using an unsteady simulation method.Numerical calculation was performed for the cavity casing treatment with oblique slots under one-rotor and one-stage environment as well as for axial slots casing treatment of Rotor 37.The influence of downstream stator upon casing treatment simulation was also analyzed. The results show that, this computation method could simulate unsteady casing treatment, but the casing treatment cannot extend the stall margin of a compressor until the dangerous section is near the tip of rotor blade. It's found that the real role of casing treatment cannot be manifested accurately under one-rotor environment, and the presence of downstream stator would change the dangerous section of upstream rotor.

2007, 22(9): 1512-1517.
Abstract:
Large eddy simulation was conducted to study the scalar mixing of a 3D supersonic shear layer with convective Mach number 0.62.Governing equations of large scale eddy were solved with fifth-order WENO scheme, and effect of small scale eddy was simulated by using localized dynamic kinetic subgrid scale model(LDKM).The subgrid convective species flux in the filtered species equation was modeled using gradient diffusion method. The results reveal the evolution of the vortex structure of the mixing layer and the scalar field.Simulations show that coherent structures dominate the scalar mixing and the instantaneous distribution of scalar field exhibits obvious 3D characteristics.Statistics such as mean and the root mean square(RMS)of the velocity and the scalar field compares well with the experimental measurements.

2007, 22(9): 1544-1549.
Abstract:
The change of elastic modulus and stress associated with fatigue cyclic number was investigated during low cycle fatigue. The research shows that, the low cycle fatigue damage can be determined by the change of elastic modulus and stress. For the materials, which have no cyclic steady stage but exhibit cyclic softening, this method isn't suitable to determine the low cycle fatigue damage with the change of stress. The fatigue crack initiation life was acquired by the change of elastic modulus under different strain levels,so the relationship between strain and fatigue crack initiation life was determined by three parameters power equation.

2007, 22(9): 1565-1568.
Abstract:
To investigate the influence of number m and length-diameter ratio on structural integrity of solid propellant under temperature loading, the thermoviscoelastic large deformation incremental constitutive equation was derived from Total Lagrangian method.Nine different numbers m and eight length-diameter ratios for calculation 72 models were selected to measure the effects on the structural integrity. The results show that, number m and length-diameter ratio have cooperative effects on the maximum value of equivalent Von Mises stress and strain. If the length-diameter ratio is larger than 3,it's concluded that the maximum value of equivalent Von Mises stress and strain are mainly determined by number m of solid propellant.
