WU Hong, WANG Jiao
2012, 27(1): 1-8.
Abstract:
Large eddy simulation(LES),based on the lattice Boltzmann equation (LBE),was used to study the square duct turbulent flow at a shear Reynolds number equal to 300 based on the hydraulic diameter and the friction velocity. The flow field was simulated by the multiple relaxation time lattice Boltzmann equation. The non-closure term after filtering was modeled by the shear improved Smagorinsky sub-grid stress model. To combine the lattice Boltzmann and large eddy simulation, the subgrid scales turbulent viscosity was related to the subgrid-scale relaxation time. Then the effective relaxation times were computed locally. The turbulent statistics quantities, including the mean streamwise velocity, mean second velocity, the root-mean-square velocity and the instantaneous streamwise voriticity on different sections, were computed. The comparison result, with the DNS and experimental data, shows that the LES based on the LBE can be used to study the bounded turbulent flow.

Abstract:
Based on the two-dimensional(2-D) numerical simulation of continuous detonation engine in an annular chamber, the paths of fluid particles starting at the injection plate were tracked, and their thermodynamic condition was plotted on a p-v and T-s diagram. The main factors that affect the paths and the fluctuation of physical parameters were discussed in detail. The thermodynamic cycle efficiency and net work output were obtained from the diagrams. The numerical thermodynamic cycle diagrams show very similar structure to the ideal ZND(Zeldovich-Neumann-Doring) model. The superior performance of CDE(continuous detonation engine) is further defined.

2012, 27(1): 25-32.
Abstract:
A three-dimensional infrared radiation code for exhaust system was developed by the finite volume method coupled with narrow band k-distribution in non-gray absorbing-emitting media. The final infrared signature had considered the atmosphere effect, and the simulation values were favorably consistent with testing ones. The results indicate that the relative errors considering the effect of atmosphere compared with that of the contrary condition reduce by 31%, it shows that when simulating the infrared radiation of the target which is received by the infrared detectors, even the calculation band is in atmospheric windows 3~5 μm, the effect of atmospheric transmission on infrared signature of the target should not be neglected.

2012, 27(1): 55-62.
Abstract:
To improve the performance of gas turbine engines,a turbine inter-vane burner (TIB) was designed. The Realizable k-ε turbulent model, probability density function(PDF) combustion model, discreate ordinates(DO) radiation model and discreate phase model (DPM) of FLUENT were used to simulate the turbulent flow and combustion in the burner. It’s observed that the TIB can increase the gas temperature by about 700K with 98.4% combustion efficiency and 4.2% absolute pressure loss. The radial temperature grows linearly with the dimensionless height. The distribution of the velocity, temperature and species are controlled by the degree of mixing of the combustion products and the main flow.Given the radial vane cavity (RVC) plays an important part in improving the outlet temperature profile, its shape deserves more study.Compared to the literature experimental data,it indicates that the mathematical models and numerical methods are reasonable and the numerical results provide an important reference to the design of TIB.

2012, 27(1): 63-68.
Abstract:
Flow distribution characteristics of China No.3 kerosene (RP-3) in vertical parallel U-turn tubes were experimentally investigated under supercritical pressures.Based on the experimental results, the effects of temperature, pressure and asymmetrical heat flux to the flow distribution characteristics of the RP-3 were analyzed. In the experiments, the inner and outer diameters of the test tube are 1.8mm and 2.2mm respectively;the mass flow rate is maintained at 4g/s under the pressure from 3 to 5MPa,and the heat flux changes from 60 to 240kW/m2.The test results indicate that static unsteady phenomenon will be induced when fuel temperature is close to its pseudo-critical point under the lower pressure, which leads to flow imbalance and flow redistribution between the two tubes. In addition, the mass flow in the branch tube is significantly affected by the non-uniformity of heat flux, and the system stability can be improved effectively by the increase of pressure and which will inhibit the flow distribution differences in the parallel pipes.

2012, 27(1): 75-81.
Abstract:
A non-probabilistic-interval analysis method, which solves the rotordynamics with these uncertain parameters, was presented.Based on interval mathematics and perturbation method, interval analysis method simplified the uncertain parameters such as support stiffness and connecting structure stiffness to interval vectors,so that it could get the intervals within which the rotordynamics varied when less information of structure was known. The formulation of natural frequencies of rotor using interval perturbation analysis method was formulated.A numerical example of comparison between interval perturbation method analysis and monotonic method was given. The rotordynamic analysis of a turbofan rotor was performed with this method. The present interval perturbation method is more accurate than determined method in rotordynamic analysis, and it decreases the requirement of uncertain parameters, such as distribution characteristic.

2012, 27(1): 82-88.
Abstract:
The compressive behavior of laminates with a deeply embedded circular delamination was studied numerically and experimentally. In the finite element analysis (FEA),virtual crack closure technique (VCCT) and B-K law were employed to simulate the delamination growth, and the contact of the two substrates was considered. The effect of the delamination size and through-thickness position on the compressive behavior of laminates with an artificially embedded circular delamination was discussed. It is found that the through-thickness position affects the buckling mode, which then strongly influences delamination growth speed and direction,as well as the dominant component energy release rate (ERR).The numerical results agreed well with the experimental results.

2012, 27(1): 97-103.
Abstract:
A bi-objective optimization model for a hollow fan blade was established for the purpose of minimizing the mass and radial displacement with the constraint of maximum Von Mises equivalent stress, based on the structural analysis of a hollow fan blade. The effects of design variables on the constraint function and objective functions were studied using orthogonal experimental design method, and the number of design variables was reduced as a result. The response surface metamodels of constraint function and objective functions were constructed using radial basis function method so as to improve the efficiency of structural design optimization and avoid a lot of finite element analysis during the optimization process. An example was solved for the purpose of studying the applications of metamodels and elitist non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-Ⅱ) for the bi-objective structural design optimization of a hollow fan blade, then a group of uniform Pareto solutions and some recommended optimal results of a hollow fan blade example were obtained.

Abstract:
In order to study the creep property variation at different regions on a directionally solidified (DS) turbine blade caused by microstructure difference among those regions, three types of DS specimen (platform-like specimen,shroud-like specimen and sheet specimen) were presented to investigate the difference by creep rupture tests at elevated temperature. The tests data shows that the performance of platform-like specimen and shroud-like specimen are 94.22% and 75.65% of sheet specimens' performance, respectively. Therefore, the difference of creep property among different regions on a DS turbine blade should be considered in blade structure design and creep life assessment. The research results may also help to improve the manufacture processes of directional solidification.

2012, 27(1): 124-128.
Abstract:
A numerical simulation of shock wave turbulent boundary layer interaction induced by a 24° compression corner based on Gao-Yong compressible turbulence model was presented. The convection terms and the diffusion terms were calculated using the second-order AUSM (advection upstream splitting method) scheme and the second-order central difference scheme, respectively. The Runge-Kutta time marching method was employed to solve the governing equations for steady state solutions.Significant flow separation-region which indicates highly non-isotropic turbulence structure has been found in the present work due to intensity interaction under the 24° compression corner.Comparisons between the calculated results and experimental data have been carried out, including surface pressure distribution,boundary-layer static pressure profiles and mean velocity profiles. The numerical results agree well with the experimental values, which indicate Gao-Yong compressible turbulence model is suitable for the prediction of shock wave turbulent boundary layer interaction in two-dimensional compression corner flows.

2012, 27(1): 129-136.
Abstract:
In allusion to the fact that current flight dynamic analysis of insect is limited to steady flight, the maneuver flight stability of bumblebee is analyzed with bifurcation analysis. The coupling stability of saccade and turning in maneuver flight is studied by analyzing the stability and stability field of different equilibrium point. Then get the global stability of saccade and turning at different forward speed. As the results have put it,turning at hovering is global stability and existing only and one stable focus when 14.23rad/s<| r |<23.8rad/s;turning at flying velocity are 2.5m/s and 4.5m/s is unstable, which explains why the insects are to reduce speed before turning;the bumblebee saccade at different forward speed are unstable and enter sharply unstable oscillation. However, there exists a transition time of 30 flapping period, which is enough for bumblebee to adjust.

2012, 27(1): 152-159.
Abstract:
PIV(particle image velocimetry) was utilized to measure the flow field of the blade passage in a rotor of multistage turbomachinery, and was successfully applied to a four-stage large-scale low-speed compressor facility. In order to apply the PIV to compressor facilities,a light sheet periscope probe and a phase-lock system have been developed. The flow field of the third stage rotor blade passage has been measured at the design condition.Compared with the 3-D (three-dimentional) steady Navier-Stokes(N-S) solution, the measurements at the compressor design point show that the PIV measurement results reflect the flow structure of the third stage rotor blade passage reasonably. There is a big tip leakage vortex, which occupies the tip region of the rotor blade passage. There is no abnormal velocity filed and no obvious flow separation phenomenon at the other region of the rotor blade passage.

GAO Jie, ZHENG Qun, LI Yi-jin
2012, 27(1): 160-168.
Abstract:
A commercial CFD(computational fluid dynamics) software was used to research the effect of rotor labyrinth-honeycomb seal leakage on the main flow in a 1.5-stage axial turbine.Effects of rotor seal leakages on the main flow, and mixing between leakage and main flows on the downstream stator with different tip clearances were analyzed;in addition, the effect of labyrinth seal with and without honeycomb facings on the aerodynamic performance of turbine stages was compared. The simulation results show that, mixing between leakage and main flows leads to velocity deflection in the mixing zone, and the suction side incidence of the re-entering leakage flow in the subsequent stator causes additional losses. The re-entering leakage flow in the subsequent stator which has a high radial velocity, alters the flow structure of the upper half channel, and causes extra secondary losses, besides, the losses are increasing with a growing tip clearance. The honeycomb acts to kill swirl velocity development for the rotating labyrinth-honeycomb seal due to the specific hexagon structure, which weakens the flow over the circumferential direction. Thus,it decreases the velocity gradients produced by the different velocity components of main and leakage flows, and the mixing of the leakage jet and main flow is greatly decreased. The honeycomb changes the flow pattern of labyrinth-honeycomb seal which leads to a reduction in leakage compared to the labyrinth seal.

WANG Da-lei, PIAO Ying
2012, 27(1): 169-175.
Abstract:
The influence of the tip clearance height of turbine rotor blades on the aerodynamic performance and secondary flow losses of an axial turbine stage were investigated by numerical simulation and different tip clearance heights were taken into account. Results show that the efficiency of the turbine stage would decrease markedly due to the increase of the tip clearance height. The efficiency would decrease 1.8% as the tip clearance height increased 1% of blade relative height.Analyses of the rotor flow field indicated that as the height if tip clearance increased, the distribution of flow losses changed in the upper passage of the rotor. The most losses were induced in the region between the middle of the rotor blade and the trailing edge, while secondary flow losses increased most behind the trailing edge.Mixing losses were the main factors which led to the efficiency decreased as the height of tip clearance increased.

2012, 27(1): 183-189.
Abstract:
In order to improve the sensitivity of spiral bevel gears caused by assembly errors, the optimization total curvature of different surface was applied from the tooth surface topology structure. The total curvature of two meshing surface contact points which orients lengthwise, can be considered as sensitivity coefficient, and the effect of reference point sensitivity coefficient of local synthesis and location parameters was investigated. The machine-tool settings of pinion which reduce sensitivity of assembly errors can be obtained by the optimization of the first order gear ratio, contact path direction, sencond order modified and third roll coefficient. The numerical example reveals that sensitivity coefficients of whole mesh cycle is controlled in comparatively small range, the amplitude and symmetry of transmission curve can be achieved to design requirements, the meshing quality can be improved.

WANG Hong, HONG Jie, MA Yan-hong
2012, 27(1): 190-197.
Abstract:
In order to describe the movement of rotor system in an aero-engine that combines the rotation and procession together, the Reynolds equation of gas film seal damper (GFSD) was deducted. The fluid-solid coupling relationship among rotor, gas film and metal rubber ring was constructed based on the movement equation and displacement coordinated relationship,so the solution process of steady-state pressure field was clear and the design method for the stiffness of metal rubber was put forward. The finite difference method was employed to solve the steady-state pressure field, and the effects of working parameters and structural parameters on the steady-state properties were analyzed, which could provide references for the structural design of GFSD,and finally the mass flow-rate between GFSD and straight labyrinth seal was compared. The results show that the appropriate stiffness of metal rubber can make GFSD adjust the clearance of gas film adaptively. In order to maintain a dynamic lubrication condition, the larger the ratio of length and diameter, and the smaller the stiffness of metal rubber and clearance of gas film is,the better the steady-state properties are.The mass flow-ratio of GFSD is much less than that of straight labyrinth seal, and therefore GFSD could meet the requirements of the seals in advanced aero-engines.

2012, 27(1): 211-217.
Abstract:
Firstly, the boundary values of exhaust gas temperature(teg) was extracted from the original exhaust gas temperature data series.Further analysis on the boundary values data series indicated that there existed a chaos feature in it.Then, chaotic forecasting arithmetic based on multivariable phase space reconstruction was established to forecast the data series. Finally,by comparing the series with the red line, the condition of aero-engine was defined. The proposed arithmetic was verified through some type of aircraft aero-engine teg data series obtained from actual flight. The result shows that the proposed arithmetic can reduce the time complexity and has a better forecast accuracy in the prediction of outliers. It can be used as a supporting model in the decision making of this aero-engine fault forecast.

Abstract:
Aiming at safety requirement for unmanned aircraft system(UAS),it was initially demonstrated that current safety assessment process and methodology based on regulation and reference for manned aircraft were limited for UAS because of its unique features. In views of this principle, some improvements for UAS safety assessment were proposed:(1) take consideration of UAS including the unmanned aerial vehicle and assured equipments, and enlarge the scope of safety assessment during functional hazard analysis at system level;(2) take consideration of the feature that pilot and unmanned aircraft are physically separated, and reclassify and redefine the serious level of UAS failures.(3) consider that the quality of take-off has a huge impact on system, and the safety analysis must be conducted for two key events-‘air collision’ and ‘ground impact’.The result indicates that the above improvements are in accordance with features of UAV and ensures safety through establishing targeted safety level.
